Abstract
BellSouth is currently operating the first ATM passive optical network fibe r-to-the-home system in North America. This article describes the architect ure, service set, field experiences, next steps, relationships with data-ce ntric core networks, potential FTTH deployment scenarios, and the opportuni ties and challenges associated with FTTH.
