Phytochemical reinvestigation of the roots and rhizomes of Veratrum taliens
e yield three known (solanidine, veramiline-3-O-beta -D-giucopyranoside and
stenophylline B-3-O-beta -D-glucopyranoside) and two novel steroidal alkal
oids. The structures of the new compounds have been established by a combin
ation of spectroscopic methods as 3-angeloylzygadenine-beta -N-oxide and (2
0S,25S)-22,26-epiminocholesta-5,22-diene-3 beta ,12 alpha -diol (named vera
mitaline). The chemotaxonomic significance of the isolates are discussed br
iefly.
