L. Shao et al., MAXIMAL AEROBIC CAPACITY AND ITS RELATIONSHIP WITH PHYSICAL GROWTH INCHINESE CHILDREN, Collegium antropologicum, 21(1), 1997, pp. 109-116
Maximal aerobic capacity and its relationship to physical growth in 46
3 Chinese children. and adolescents aged 10-19 is reported. Results sh
ow that VO2max, VO2max/height and VO2max/HRmax positively relate to me
asures of physical growth such as height, weight and lean body mass (L
BM). Correlation of VO2max/weight with physical growth variables is hi
gh and positive in boys and Low and negative in girls. The sample is d
ivided to two groups on each variable: well-developed and relatively p
oorly-developed according to height, weight and LBM. SDS values of VO2
max, VO2max/height and VO2max/HRmax are higher in the first group than
in the second group. In contrast, SDS values of VO2max/weight and VO2
max/LBM are greater in second group. The similarity of results between
SDS values with correlation analysis suggest that weight and LBM are
probably the decisive factors that influence VO2max.
