Abstract
We propose a new method for generating short laser pulses. It consists of g eneration of steep pulses and saturated amplification. A steep Stokes pulse created by two-step stimulated Brillouin scattering is amplified with a Kr F laser under conditions of strong saturation. Pulse shortening by approxim ately 40% is achieved by amplification. (C) 2000 Optical Society of America [S0740-3224(00)01411-9].
