The growth temperature of the peritectic phase on the primary phase was inv
estigated for Sn-13 mass%Cu and Cd-(6-15) mass%Cu alloys which have eutecti
c and peritectic points in their phase diagrams. Specimens were grown direc
tionally and then quenched to delineate eutectic and peritectic growth fron
ts. The peritectic growth temperature of Cu-87 mass%Sn alloy did not change
with growth rate while that of Cd-(6-15) mass%Cu changed. A model for the
growth temperature was proposed and it was concluded that the growth temper
ature is likely to be very close to the peritectic temperature unless slope
s of the two liquidus lines almost coincide.
