Abstract
Viruses are the masters of trickery. They mimic, manipulate and usurp cellu lar functions, hut always with an interesting twist. gamma -herpesvirus gen omes encode an abundance of homologues of cellular factors, including cycli n and Bcl-2. These viral homologues differ from their cellular counterparts in that the viral proteins have gained new functions and eliminated others to harness the cell and benefit the virus.
