Magnetic properties of Dy-N clusters in a molecular beam generated with a l
iquid-helium-cooled nozzle are investigated by Stem-Gerlach experiments. Th
e cluster magnetizations mu (z), are measured as a function of magnetic fie
ld (B=0-1.6 T) and cluster size (17 less than or equal toN less than or equ
al to 55). The most important observation is the saturation of the magnetiz
ation mu (z)(B) at large field strengths. The magnetization approaches satu
ration following the power law \ mu (z)-mu (0)\ similar to1/rootB, where mu
(0) denotes the magnetic moment. This gives evidence for adiabatic magneti
zation.
