In this paper we investigate the existence and study the properties of line
ar dichroism and of circular dichroism in a linear, achiral molecule throug
h a process in which absorption of a single photon results in the simultane
ous ejection of two electrons. The two dichroic effects are found to provid
e complementary information about molecular double photoionization and poss
ess very different properties. Dependence of such chiralities on nuclear ro
tation has properly been studied by using parity-adapted states to represen
t the target molecule and its doubly charged residual photoion. The discuss
ion presented is independent of any dynamical models. Both magnitude and be
havior of the linear as well as circular dichroisms have phenomenologically
been calculated for double photoionization in a sigma (2)(g) shell of a D-
proportional toh molecule rotating in its (1)Sigma (+)(g) electronic state.
