The experimentally established anomalies in the dissolution of metals under
different conditions are generalized. The existing explanations for the an
omalies are compared. Attention is focused on the dissolution of metals by
the electrochemical and both the electrochemical and electroless mechanisms
. The feasibility of employing new theoretical notions of the electrochemic
al kinetics for interpreting the anomalous processes of the dissolution of
metals as processes of an electroless nature is considered.
