Copper(II) complexes of the formula CuLX2, (L = 2,2'-diamino-4,4'-bithiazol
e or 2,2'-bisacetamido-4,4'-bithiazole, X = Cl, Br, NO3, 1/2SO(4)), were pr
epared and characterized by elemental and thermogravimetric analyses, IR, e
lectronic and EPR spectroscopy. In all of the prepared compounds the ligand
s act in a bidentate fashion through the nitrogen atoms of the thiazole rin
gs. The electronic and EPR spectral data show that the complexes have a tet
rahedral distorted structure, except for the [CuLCl2](2) (L = 2,2'-bisaceta
mido-4,4'0bithiazole) complex. This dimeric complex presents two bridging c
hloride groups between the two non-equivalent Cu(II) ions.
