A new species of the genus Cryptophialus, was found in a gastropod (Purpura
persica) shell from the Aden Gulf. The short neck, four projections of ope
rcular bars, and mandibles with two main teeth are characteristic of this n
ew species. All its characteristics indicate its close relation to C. coron
atus Tomlinson, 1960. However, the new species differs from that latter in
the presence of four projections of opercular bars and rudiments of the mou
th cirri. The data on the female ultrastructure are compared with those on
C. coronophorus Smyth (Smyth, 1986). New data on the ultrastructure of the
attachment place, labrum, mandibular palps, terminal cirri, and dwarf male
were obtained. These data are compared with those on other acrothoracican t
axa.
