Abstract
The Kohonen Algorithm was extended by (a) a coupling between node and input space based upon gravitational principles and (b) a controlling mechanism based upon two-point correlation functions. The extended alg orithm avoids optimization of the learning rate and neighbourhood para meters and was successfully applied to off-line tasks like invariant m ass analysis, Delta E particle discrimination and background suppressi on.
