Poorly crystallized apatite was prepared by co-precipitation at room temper
ature and then treated in an F- rich medium. Characterization by X-ray diff
raction and infrared spectroscopy indicated that this treatment did not aff
ect the apatitic structure. However, improvements in crystallinity and ioni
c conductivity were observed following this treatment. The conductivity spe
ctra showed a restructuration of the apatite and a restoration of the order
. The implications on the ionic conductivity of dental caries are discussed
