Abstract
A sensitive and specific HPLC method for gatifloxacin applicable to serum a nd urine of volunteers was developed. The method can be operated unattended in over-night runs. it uses reversed-phase HPLC with fluorimetric detectio n. Trovafloxacin serves as internal standard. With a detection limit of 0.0 3 mg L-1 the method was sensitive enough to measure serum concentrations of gatifloxacin in healthy volunteers for 48 hours after a single oral dose o f 400 mg. There was excellent agreement with results obtained by a microbio logical assay.
