Abstract
This paper describes the dynamic process model and solution technique devel oped for the hot blast stoves used with the No. 7 blast furnace at the Ispa t Inland Steel facility in East Chicago, IN, USA. A detailed, distributed p arameter, heat transfer model of this thermal regenerator system is develop ed and verified using plant data. The model is capable of predicting accura tely the temperature and energy content of the stoves during the thermal re generative cycles. It was developed for a predictive controller that determ ines the minimum amount of fuel necessary to achieve the energy requirement s from the system. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd.
