Through study of the prompt gamma -rays emitted in the spontaneous fission
of Cf-252, high spin states of neutron-rich odd-A Ce-145,Ce-147 nuclei have
been investigated. The levels in Ce-147 have been extended. A collective b
and in Ce-145 have been identified for the first time. The results from the
par tide rotor model calculations indicate that the yrast bands in 145Ce a
nd 147Ce originate from nui(13/2) orbital coupling and the ground states of
Ce-145 and Ce-147 originate from (Vh(9/2)circle times nuf(7/2)) and vh(9/2
) configuration, respectively. No obvious octupole deformation was observed
in these two isotopes, but a side band obtained in Ce-147 may show some oc
tupole correlations.
