Abstract
Angular distribution data for the elastic scattering of 65 MeV protons from several nuclei between C-12 and Pb-208 and 65 MeV neutrons from a few nucl ei over the same range are studied within the framework of the strong absor ption model of Frahn and Venter and the best fit parameters are obtained. T hese are used to analyze the inelastic scattering of protons leading to sev eral 2(+) and 3(-) states and the corresponding deformation parameters are extracted.
