Abstract
Lanthanoid complexes of a dipyridylsubstituted beta -diketonate ligand have been prepared and their structure and optical characteristics have been ex plored. The structure of these complexes are ten-coordinate centrosymmetric dimers with quaddruply bridging diketonate ligands, terminal diketonate li gands and 'dangling' and bound pyridyl nitrogen atoms. The europium complex diplays strongly luminescent properties while the terbium analogue is comp letely quenched. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved. [GRAPHICS]
