A small-sized source of short X-ray pulses is described, whose basic compon
ents are a three-electrode X-ray tube operating at 30 kV and 0.5 A and a fa
st GaAs modulator connected coaxially to the tube grid. The limiting operat
ing parameters of the source are a subnanosecond pulse duration and a pulse
repetition rate as high as 100 kHz.
