Mesenchyma[ hamartoma of the liver is an unusual oncologic entity which occ
urs almost exclusively in infancy and childhood, fewer than 200 cases have
been reported. We present the case of a 21-year-old female, who was admitte
d to our institution with a painful right subcostal mass lasting for 6 mont
hs, who had no evidence of generalised disease. Imaging procedures revealed
a central solid lesion, 15 cm in diameter, in the right lobe of the liver
with cystic degeneration. The patient underwent a formal right hepatectomy.
The pathology report ascertained the presence of a benign mesenchymal hama
rtoma of the liver.
