This paper presents, in terms of the tapered section assumption, an effecti
ve method for calculating local stress and elastoplastic load of a thick-wa
lled tube with fillets under torsion. The relationships of the stress conce
ntration factor with fillet depth t, radius rho of the fillet and the inter
nal radius r of the tube are discussed. The elastoplastic limit loads and l
ocal stress analysis are given. The computed results are compared with prev
ious works. This shows that the expressions obtained in this paper are inde
