Abstract
This paper presents, in terms of the tapered section assumption, an effecti ve method for calculating local stress and elastoplastic load of a thick-wa lled tube with fillets under torsion. The relationships of the stress conce ntration factor with fillet depth t, radius rho of the fillet and the inter nal radius r of the tube are discussed. The elastoplastic limit loads and l ocal stress analysis are given. The computed results are compared with prev ious works. This shows that the expressions obtained in this paper are inde ed effective, simple and easy to apply in engineering. (C) 2000 Elsevier Sc ience Ltd. All rights reserved.
