Abstract
An effective method of calculating Stark resonances is deduced from a scatt ering theory for Stark systems. The method is applied to the problem of a B loch particle in a constant external field. When the field strength is vari ed over a wide range, resonant tunnelling can be observed. The resonance wi dths as a function of the field strength can be accurately described by a f ew-states model.
