Photodissociation of benzotrifluoride at 193 nm was studied in molecular be
am by VUV photoionization/multimass ion imaging techniques. Photofragment t
ranslational energy distributions corresponding to the F and CF3 eliminatio
n were measured. The dissociation rate of benzotrifluoride was measured to
be 6.2 x 10(4) s(-1). The experimental result indicated that the highly vib
rationally excited benzotrifluoride was formed by internal conversion from
an initial excited state to a ground electronic state prior to dissociation
.
