For a side-pumped Nd:YAG laser using a reflective compound parabolic concen
trator as an optical pump cavity, we numerically calculated the laser outpu
t power based on the laser gain distributions for various Hermite-Gaussian
modes. To obtain the gain distribution within each divided zone of the acti
ve laser medium, we used a ray-tracing method to get the gain densities at
the grid points and then interpolated the gain densities of the four grid p
oints enclosing each zone. From the power distribution obtained through ray
-tracing simulation, we calculated the laser output power using the laser o
utput power calculation model. The calculated the laser output power was co
mpared with that of our newly constructed laser. The calculated laser outpu
t powers agreed well with the experimentally measured values.
