Theory of the field-free optical transition for a quantum well

Sublevels are formed by a quantum well structure with parabolic potential. We calculate the optical absorption in the absence of a strong external fie ld. We use two similar projection operators to obtain the lineshape functio n of the system in which the effect of the phonon is dominant. The function is shown to be more or less similar to the case in which a strong magnetic field is present.
