Abstract
A review on the assessment of the models contained in 2D plasma edge c odes by comparing their results with experimental measurements of the SOL and divertor plasma is presented. Improvements in the models and e xperimental measurements in recent years have allowed a quantitative a ssessment of the predictions of the codes in a wide variety of regimes . In particular the accuracy of these codes to evaluate the effects of divertor geometry, reproduce experimental observations of divertor de tachment, ELMs, Marfes and radiative H-mode discharges is described in detail. Areas where further experimental measurements and model impro vements need to be carried out are highlighted.
