Abstract
(-)-Eseroline 8 on reaction with trimethylsilyl isocyanate in refluxing tol uene directly gave the crystalline tricyclic urea 2. Carbamate 1 was made b y debenzylation of 2',4'-dimethoxybenzylcarbamate 17. The structures of car bamate 1 and tricyclic urea 2 were confirmed by X-ray crystallography. Carb amate 1, like physostigmine, was found to possess high inhibitory activity against human acetyl- (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) in vitro and potent action when administered to rats in in vivo studies.
