Our standard setup used for accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) with C-14 w
as modified for measuring various other radionuclides. The injection and de
tection systems were modified to suit the particular isotope investigated.
B-10, the stable isobar of Be-10, is stopped in a gas absorber in front of
a surface barrier detector. Al-26 is measured similar to C-14, except for a
modification of the timing for the sequential isotope injection. For I-129
, a time-of-flight setup was built to separate I-129 from I-127 For heavier
rare radionuclides, the mass resolution of the injector system was improve
d. We also improved our capabilities in measuring carbon samples having ver
y low mass. We describe two different methods to prepare and to measure sub
-milligram C-14 samples. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved
