Abstract
The atomic structure and composition of a recently reported second phase fo und in Fe-Al alloys with small B and C additions have been determined using a combination of Z-contrast imaging and electron-energy-loss spectroscopy. The structure of this ordered tetragonal precipitate is found to be closel y related to the B2 structure of the matrix. The derived structure and elec tron-energy-loss spectroscopy indicate that the phase is a new low-metalloi d-content boride with B occupying specific interstitial sites.
