Intermediate-energy Coulomb excitation has been used to study excited state
s in the radioactive N=19 nuclei Si-33 and P-34, which are neutron-rich sph
erical nuclei located along the boundary of the "island of inversion." The
present results for the 1010 keV state in Si-33 and states up to 2.21 MeV e
xcitation energy in P-34 can be understood in terms of 0 (h) over bar omega
(nonintruder) configurations. This suggests that the energy differences be
tween 0 (h) over bar omega and 2 (h) over bar omega configurations are larg
e enough in Si-33 and P-34 that the low-lying 0 (h) over bar omega states a
re not significantly perturbed.
