Abstract
We report suppression of atomic heating by light scattering due to tight bi nding in a 3D far-off-resonant optical lattice. We show that rescattered sp ontaneously emitted photons do not heat trapped atoms when the scattering r ate is much less than the trap vibrational frequency.
