A review is presented concerning modern experimental investigations of pret
ransition phenomena, thermoelastic martensitic transformations, and physico
mechanical properties of titanium alloys with the B2-type structure. Inform
ation is given on the atomic structure of the alloys upon transformations,
their morphology, conditions and mechanisms of formation, and the effects o
f alloying. The main features and the nature of the effects of the thermome
chanical shape memory are analyzed. The methods of preparation and treatmen
t of the alloys are discussed. The principal directions of the application
of shape-memory alloys in engineering and-medicine are considered.
