Ae. Kheifets et al., Analysis of propagation and interaction of shock waves in steel balls based on microstructure changes, PHYS MET R, 90, 2000, pp. S108-S123
Physical metallurgy and computer simulation methods were used to study the
propagation and interaction of shock waves in steel balls subjected to conv
ergent dodecahedrally symmetric shock waves. Conditions for the energy cumu
lation and realization of the regular and the irregular type of interaction
of shock waves were studied. Based on the results of microstructural inves
tigations of intact samples, parameters of the shock-wave loading were calc
ulated such as the pressure, the residual temperature, the time of isentrop
ic flow of the substance under load, and the pressure profile behind the sh
ock-wave front. A method for the restoration of the wave propagation patter
n in the samples from residual microstructure changes is suggested.
