Abstract
The noncanonical Lagrangian theory of guiding center orbits is applied to t he coordinate system of White-Chance-Boozer. The result is a generalized se t of equations of motion which eliminates certain approximations of the sta tic field and includes the effects of large rotations and high frequency wa ves. A quasilinear gyrokinetic theory is shown to readily follow from these equations. (C) 2000 American Institute of Physics. [S1070-664X(00)03109-8] .
