The effect of phospholipids (PL) on kinetics and chemism of hydrogenation o
f rapeseed and soybean oils was investigated. Nickel catalysts, produced in
Poland, were used. It has been confirmed that the presence of PL in hydrog
enated oil poisons the catalyst and the reaction rate falls. So the extensi
on of the reaction time or the necessity to use additional portions of the
catalyst are required. In case of multiple use of the nickel catalyst, the
amount of recycled catalyst is inversely proportional to the content of PL
in the oil. Increase of PL content in the oil had no effeect on the reactio
n chemism, including linoleic and linolenic selectivity and the rate of cis
-trans isomerization. Inhibitory effect of PL on hydrogenation is si,signif
icant for hydrogenation plants where the catalyst is used several times and
the content of PL in oils varies.
