The composition of iron-containing particles in pores of SUA iron-containin
g activated carbon after its treatment in a hydrogen atmosphere at 700 degr
eesC is studied by Mossbauer spectroscopy on Fe-57. The measured contents o
f iron and iron oxides in samples with various distributions of the Fe-57 i
sotope suggest that the presence of oxides in the adsorbents is a result of
the oxidation of alpha -Fe particles by air oxygen after annealing in H-2.
