Abstract
The discovery, structure and absolute stereochemistry of coleophomones A an d B are described, two structurally novel natural products that inhibit bac terial transglycosylase activity. Coleophomone A represents a new ring syst em, containing a highly condensed structure which undergoes a reversible re troaldol reaction to form coleophomone B. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd.
