Abstract
A series of quaternary ammonium salts has been tested as phase transfer age nts to promote condensation reactions in an aqueous solution of sodium hydr oxide in the absence of any organic solvent. Methyltrioctylammonium chlorid e (Aliquat(R) 336) emerges as the most efficient catalyst. Sonication of th e reaction media has a poor but positive kinetic effect. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V.
