An intramural hematoma of the small intestine caused an intestinal obstruct
ion in a dog. The changes of the intestinal wall could be shown sonographic
ally. The intramural hematoma was associated with a hemorrhagic - necrotizi
ng inflammation of the jejunum, and the observation of roundworms. The tend
ency to colliquate and possibly arrode the wall of the vessels was discusse
d as cause of the hematoma. The problem was resolved by resection of the in
volved segment of the intestine, followed by anastomosis.
