The use of meshed skin grafts created by the Mesh Graft Dermatome II of Zim
mer to cover large skin defects of the distal limbs of dogs and cats has ad
vantages to the hand made mesh grafts. The harvesting of a mesh graft can b
e done by a scalpel blade or by means of the Mesh Graft Dermatome II by Zim
mer. The incisions, which are cut into the graft by means of the Mesh Graft
Dermatome II by Zimmer and a Derma Carrier, are well defined and evenly sp
aced, which makes the graft more flexible, and allow a better drainage. it
can better be adapted to an irregular wound bed and attached on to the unde
rlaying surface, provides a better wound healing and a better cosmetic resu
lt. The disadvantages are the costs of the dermatome and the bigger effort.
