Abstract
The effect of noise on the accuracy of single-mode rate equations in predic ting laser diode (LD) behavior is evaluated. Inclusion of noise increases t he relaxation oscillation damping. Nonlinear dynamics analysis reveals that noise has disguised an important factor that governs the agreement between calculated and measured results. Instead, simulations show that the LD act ive layer temperature has a major impact on the accuracy of modeling LD beh avior. (C) 2000 American Institute of Physics. [S0003-6951(00)00748-8].
