The utilization of MgO as a buffer in ammonium sulfite pulping

The investigation describes the utilization of MgO as a buffer in ammonium sulfite pulping. The indexes of pulp, when MgO was used as a buffer, approa ched those recorded when using ammonia water as a buffer, and the pulp was easily bleached. Using MgO as a buffer instead of ammonia water in ammonium sulfite pulping can promote delignification in cooking. It may lower the p ulping costs, reduce pollution and protect the environment.
