Y. Fan et al., The study on recognition of polydiacetylene functionalized with mannopyranoside mimic membrance for Escherichia coli, CHEM J CH U, 21(11), 2000, pp. 1655-1657
People has known that the recognition between cells and bacteria is related
to the glycolipid, as a receptor on the cell surface. Diacetylene moiety i
n the hydrocarbon region can be cross-linked by UV irradiation to form the
corresponding polydiacetylene polymer. Color changes of polydiacetylenes ha
ve been known to occur in response to a variety of environmental perturbati
ons such as heating, pH, mechanical stress or in the case of biosensor, due
to the strong pi-pi* absorption of the conjugation backbone. In this repor
t, polydiacetylene mixed with mannopyranoside monolayer is prepared by Lang
muir-Blodgett film technology, E. coli K-12 adheres on the monolayer surfac
e after gram strain. The result shows that the mannopyraoside could be reco
gnitized by E. coli, but couldn't be recognitized by O111B4 and S, flexneri
.
