Functional conversion reactions leading to psychogenic gait abnormalit
ies have been frequently described, however, the psychodynamic context,
the therapeutical consequencies and the course of these disorders hav
e not been sufficiently investigated yet. Thus, the psychosomatic and
neurological findings of 100 patients suffering from psychogenic gait
abnormality, who were either treated in our neurological or psychiatri
c department between 1983 and 1992, are presented. These retrospective
ly obtained results are compared with the results from other studies d
ealing with conversion symptoms.
