A dual-wavelength, actively mode-locked erbium-doped fibre laser is reporte
d that generates pulses each similar to 68ps long with a wavelength separat
ion of 0.7nm at a repetition rate of 2.6GHz. Temporal-spectral multiplexing
of the pulses in the gain medium, rather than careful gain equalisation, i
s used to reduce the effects of gain competition and obtain wavelength stab
le, room-temperature operation.
