This paper describes interesting self-assembling properties of heterocyclic
bolaamphiphiles derived from (E)-urocanic acid (3-[1H-imidazolyl(4)-yl]pro
penoic acid). The structures of the aggregates obtained in water were studi
ed by transmission electron microscopy. The formation of an elegant biomime
tic superstructure was obtained from a bolaamphiphile having two different
head-groups: a urocanic moiety and a methyl carboxylate.
