Abstract
Two new U(VI) oxyfluorides (C5H6N)U2O4F5 (AU2-4) and (C3H5N2)U2O4F5.1.75H(2 )O (AU2-5) have been prepared through explorations of the UO2(C2H3O2)(2)/HF /pyridine and UO3/HF/pyrazole systems at 180 degreesC for 72 h in aqueous m edia. AU2-4 and AU2-5 are two-dimensional compounds containing structurally isomeric [U2O4F5](1-) layers formed from [UO2F5] pentagonal bipyramids. [U O2F3](1-) one-dimensional chains can be derived from these structures throu gh the addition of fluoride, providing the first examples of dimensional re duction in organically templated actinide chemistry where the fundamental b uilding block is unchanged.
