This paper investigates an active method towards net quality milling. The o
verlap between subsequent passes is studied. The significance of the effect
of overlap values on milling performance is shown. A new NC-code is propos
ed that controls and implements an optimum phase between passes and that sa
tisfies net quality in milling. Mathematical models were developed for the
cutting geometry, surface roughness, chip thickness and cutting force. Expe
rimental results and a case study show the validity and adequacy of the pat
h modification scheme.
