Abstract
We have synthesized a number of new achiral and chiral triphenylene derivat ives bearing laterally substituted phenylene units in the side chains. Thei r polymorphism includes the first reported discotic blue phase of a pure co mpound and a ferroelectrically switchable columnar mesophase.
