Abstract
An unsymmetrical koiland 5 based on the double fusion of two different cali x[4]arenes by two silicon atoms has been prepared and structurally characte rised. Using p-xylene and phenylpropyne as symmetrical unsymmetrical connec tors, respectively, directional 1-D inclusion networks have been obtained a nd structurally characterised by X-ray diffraction methods on single crysta ls. In both cases, the 1-D networks were packed in a parallel fashion. Howe ver, the linear arrays were oriented in opposite directions, thus leading t o non-directional systems.
